Legacy 76 Inaugural Season Recap

Williamsburg, VA - On July 6th, Legacy 76's inaguaral season came to a close at Captain's Field with a 1-0 victory over 2nd place Virginia Beach City.  The Legacy goal came off a corner kick that was put away by defender, Andrew Hinnant (College of William and Mary).  Both team's had several chances, but Legacy 76 goalkeeper, Davin Field (Randolph College) was outstanding, registering 5 saves in the shutout.  Legacy 76 finished the season in 4th place in the Mid Atlantic Conference with an overall record of three wins, two draws, and five losses.

VLSC Technical Director, Bobby O'Brien said, "To end the season on a two-game winning streak and beating an undefeated team shows the level of players we had.  It was a great experience for all the players, staff, coaches and administration involved.  We were in a highly competitive division and of the two teams representing our division in the national playoffs we conceded only two goals total in the four games against these opponents.  Many of our young Legacy players U16, 17 and U18 – were able to consistently train at a high level over the summer, with and against outstanding college players and former professionals and some were even able to be rostered and participate in official matches."

The highlights of the season include the home opener where over 1,600 fans were in attendance, and Jacob Weiler (University of Nebraska - Omaha) scoring the club's first NPSL goal.  Legacy 76's first win came on the road against the ASA Charge, courtesy of a goal by Brian Lybert (Christopher Newport University) and a Mac Phillips (College of William and Mary) shutout.  On June 27th, Legacy 76 scored a season-high five goals in a win over Chesterfield United FC, with goals coming from Jalon Brown (Christopher Newport University) Alfonso Speed (College of William and Mary) and Reilly Maw (College of William and Mary).

On the season, Maw said, "I thought the final game was a good overall team result, and hopefully a sign of potential in the future.  The season was a good way to stay in shape and prepare for the upcoming collegiate season. We got a little unlucky with some of the results, but with our inaugural season we learned a lot and found out we have a competitive team. And hopefully next season we can take the next step."

Thanks to all the fans for their support throughout the season and to the players for their hard work and dedication!  See you next year!
