Legacy 76 Opens Season

May 16th Against Chesterfield United

Williamsburg VA. - This past Saturday May 16th, the Legacy 76 opened the season in front of over 800 fans against Chesterfield United at Wanner Stadium.  The Legacy started out rough conceding a goal early in the first half.  The team quickly rallied back and took control of the game by making a few tactical switches.  Although down a goal, The Legacy 76 fought hard to battle back.  At the 35th minute of the first half, Jamie Gunderson (Captain), placed an immaculate shot past the Chesterfield keeper off a rebounded volley from Brian Lybert.  76 held the tie for about 10 minutes, then just before the halftime whistle - they conceded a deflating goal in the last minute of the first half.

The Legacy came out of the locker room trailing 2-1 and played to correct the difference.  The Legacy showed well for the entire second half but the score line didn’t change. In the late minutes of the game, as the Legacy was pushing high to equalize the game, former Legacy Alum Robert Alberti scored the finishing goal for Chesterfield United.

The Legacy showed well in their first game with several key players missing. The Legacy will be back in action in their next game away at FC Frederick in Maryland on May 30th. Legacy will return home at CNU’s Captain’s Stadium on June 14th at 5pm.
