The first kick Saturday night between Legacy 76 and Boston City FC was 7 p.m. The final kick came at 12:45 a.m.

Legacy 76 edged Boston City 5-4 in penalty kicks at Wanner Stadium to advance in the NPSL playoff regionals after a three-hour lightning delay that struck shortly into the second half. Neither team had scored after regulation or 30 minutes of extra time in a downpour.

It was the first NPSL playoff win for Legacy 76, which will travel Wednesday to New York's Clarkstown Eagles.

"We expect to win every game we play," said Legacy 76 center back Jacob Weiler, who scored the winning PK. "We're not just going for a road trip or to see the city. It's a quick turnaround. We just played a lot of minutes. But I think we have a really commited group of guys that's going to be fine with that quick a turnaround."

Weiler was the seventh Legacy 76 player to go to the penalty spot and knocked in the winner after Nebraska Omaha teammate Joseph Ghitis made a stop in goal.

Ghitis not only found his way into the first-five shooters for Legacy 76, but took the first shot for his team, burying his chance into the upper netting to level the score at 1. 

Boston City jumped out to a 3-1 lead in PKs before Legacy 76 chipped away and got some help from a shot off the post. Then, Henry Gotay knotted it at 3 for the home side.

It was a relatively open and evenly-played match with each team producing chances. Legacy 76's Jermain Reid had two of the best of either, but narrowly missed in the penalty area late in the first half and as regulation waned.

"I knew (Boston City) would be a foreign group of guys with a foreign coach, but our guys are good," Legacy 76 coach Kevin Darcy said. "We have a good blend of homegrown talent and foreign players and at-large guys from different places. I knew we would compete. We were quite good on the ball tonight."
