Legacy Girls Shine at WAGS!

Legacy Girls Shine at WAGS!

Six Virginia Legacy CCL Girls teams participated in the WAGS tournament this past Columbus Day Weekend.  From top to bottom the girls represented the club extremely well and all had a great, competitive weekend.

The WAGS tournament has consistently been one of the top youth tournaments in the nation for girls soccer.  It is recognized as one of the biggest showcase and youth soccer tournaments in the United States and Canada, attracting teams from over 20 states/countries across the map.  The tournament is broken up into two different formats with the younger teams (U10-U15) playing a traditional group stage and knockout format, while the older teams (U16-U19) play a showcase format where they play three games in three days so college coaches can see the girls for recruiting purposes.  Over 125 Women's College Soccer coaches are in attendance on the weekend scouting players.

In the traditional format, our 2007 U12 CCL Girls played a terrific tournament by winning two out of three group games earning their place in the semi-finals against a team from North Carolina.  The game finished regulation tied 3-3 so they headed straight to penalty kicks where they won on the game winning kick by Maddie Leach. Gracie Singer  led the team in goal making save after save to keep the girls in it.  In the finals, the 07 girls faced the team they lost to in group play and had a very exciting game but ended up losing 1-0 to the team from Pennsylvania.  The girls finished the tournament with a much deserved runner-up medal.  Overall for the 2007 girls it was a great experience and wonderful weekend to compete against teams from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina all in one place.

We had four teams compete in the showcase portion of the event and all four had close, competitive games.  As a whole our ladies finished 4-3-2 with the 2003 CCL Girls finishing 3-0.  Our U18 CCL team had the honor of competing in the top showcase bracket and finished 1-1-1.  Girls Director, Shawn Trueblood added, "Overall, Virginia Legacy Soccer Club was represented very well and in front of over one hundred college coaches attending the event, the club could not be more proud of this girls program and what they are accomplishing on such a big stage".

Great job ladies, good luck the rest of the year.

Overall it was a great experience for the Legacy girls to get the college exposure, competitive environment and compete against teams from Louisiana, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Ohio, North Carolina and West Virginia.
