Meet the Legacy 76

Season Opener May 16th at 7pm, Wanner Stadium

 

 

Williamsburg VA. - The Virginia Legacy 76 semi-professional team is almost ready to begin their second season in the NPSL (National Premier Soccer League).  This year’s head coach Kevin Darcy has hand picked a roster that will surely impress as well as indear this community to the team. 

This Saturday, May 16th, the season begins at Wanner stadium in Williamsburg Virginia in what is sure to be a sold out crowd.   Last year over 1,600 were in attendance as the Legacy 76 took on Chesterfield United. 

Legacy 76 is a special number to the club as it represents the year of the clubs inception (1976). In order to honor our legacy, we use this number and this team to unite some of our greatest players under one banner. 

Returning players named to the roster this year:

Preston Bremus, Former Legacy Youth Player and a Smithfield High School graduate, is a member of the ODU men’s soccer team that advanced to the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.  Prior to joining the Monarchs, Bremus was a starting defender and USA South All-Academic team member at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

Alec Faulkner, Former Legacy Youth Player and a graduate of Christchurch School, a senior team captain at CNU in 2015.  Faulkner has played in every game during his CNU career.  In 2014, he was named CAC 1st Team All-Conference, VaSID 1st Team All-State and NSCAA 3rd Team All-Region.

Alfonso Speed, who began his career with Legacy is a rising sophomore on the men’s soccer team at William & Mary.  Prior to joining the Tribe, Speed was a four-year member of the varsity team at Lafayette High School.  In 2012, Speed scored 23 goals and added 15 assists in just 15 games.  He was honored as 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Area by the Daily Press and 1st Team All-Gazette by the Virginia Gazette.

Jalon Brown, Former Legacy standout from Yorktown, Va., Brown finished with a number of program-best marks after an illustrious career at the top of a dominant offense. He is the CNU Captains' all-time leader in goals scored and total points, finishing with 52 goals and 134 points. The three-time Conference Player of the Year saved his finest season for last, scoring 47 points on 20 goals and seven assists. The 47-point effort is the second most in a single season at CNU, along with the 20 goals scored. He is a 3 time All-American at the college level.

Local Players who will find more time this season:

Andrew Bonorden – former Legacy youth player and current Legacy Coach – “Bo” was a standout player for Grafton HS where he was a State Runner-up before heading to CNU where he was a standout goal scorer for the Captains.

Jamie Gunderson – former Legacy youth who played college soccer at Methodist.  He is a former professional soccer player with the Norfolk Sharx of the MISL and is currently on the Legacy coaching staff along with Asst. Womens Coach at CNU.

Kendal Pressey born and raised in Williamsburg Virginia, former Legacy youth player who is currently finishing up this last year at Chowan College where he is the captain of the Men’s soccer team. Kendal is a former standout at Lafayette high school.

Exciting New Faces:

Jeff Wolons is a current Legacy and high school stand out at Jamestown HS.  He currently has 32 goals in 12 matches thus far. Jeff was a member of Legacy 76 last year and pushed for minutes. This year he will surely find the starting 11 as he prepares for his first year at Virginia Tech in the Fall.

we hope to see everyone out this Saturday – May 16th – 7:00pm at Wanner Stadium.  The areas only semi-pro soccer team returns for past paced – exciting soccer action.  All kids wearing their Legacy jerseys get in free.  Adults are $5 and Kids 2$.
